2 Highly Effective Techniques For River Fishing

2 Highly Effective Techniques For River Fishing : When it comes to fishing in rivers the techniques that are employed are as important as any single factor. I have been fishing in rivers for more than twenty years and in this article I will outline 2 highly effective river fishing techniques that will help you catch more fish on your next river fishing excursion. These techniques are effective for freshwater species such as bass, trout, and even walleye.

When I refer to the term 'river fishing' I'm referring specifically to river fishing while wading in the river that is being fished. The river techniques that will be outlined here are most effective when used in this manner, although they can easily be modified for fishing from the bank or a boat as well. With that being said, let's get down to business, what do you say?

The Casting Bubble Technique - The casting bubble fishing technique involves the use of a casting bubble (sometimes called a 'fly fishing bubble) to fish with an artificial fly of your choice. This technique is obviously for spin fishermen who don't "fly fish" and is a very effective way to catch fish while river fishing. As far as river fishing techniques are concerning using a casting bubble to fish artificial flies is an excellent way to go. A key to using casting bubbles is to have light current flow. If the area of the river that you are fishing is flowing heavily, this technique won't be as effective. It is effective in slow moving current such as can be found in deep runs and pools. A casting bubble is slipped onto your fishing line and a swivel is tied to the end of your line. A tapered leader is added to the swivel and a fly is tied to the end of the leader. The casting bubble is now submerged in the water and filled (or partially filled) with water to add weight to the rig. Now a lightweight fly can be cast and fished effectively while using traditional spin fishing gear.
The Live Worm Fishing Technique - This technique obviously involves the use of a live worm, such as a night crawler or red worm, that is allowed to drift naturally with the current of the river that is being fished. The best way to rig a live worm for this technique is a set of gang hooks, which are a pair of small fishing hooks tied in tandem. Gang hooks allow for live worms to be presented in a totally natural and effective manner, which makes them much more attractive to the fish that you are attempting to catch. Plus, because they are tied with small fishing hooks the hooks are all but invisible to the fish. As far as river fishing techniques are concerned this technique is highly effective and could easily become your favorite.

These two river fishing techniques should be added to any serious river fisherman's repertoire sooner rather than later. Both of these techniques have been helping be catch trout, small and largemouth bass, and even walleye while wade fishing in rivers for years and I know they will do the same for you.
