Ice fishermen alert family to house fire: A pair of friends who had plans to do some ice fishing in McHenry County Sunday morning are being hailed as heroes.
Tony Swiatkowski and Shane Gatza spotted a house on fire in Holiday Hills and immediately sprang into action.
Thanks to their actions, the family inside was able to escape the fire without any injuries.
The house is likely a total loss but firefighters were able to salvage something.
They were able to pull out most of the family's Christmas gifts which were all wrapped and under the tree.
