National Ice Fishing Championships Couple Competes Against Each Other

National Ice Fishing Championships Couple Competes Against Each OtherFor the past two year's Mike Boedecker has finished 2nd in the National Ice Fishing Championship, something he's hoping to change this year, but that's not going to be easy.

"This is a little different this year because were fishing two different lakes so you gotta practice on both," said Mike Boedecker of Lansing, MI. "We were out Tuesday night and we fished on this lake, on Thompson, and then Wednesday and this morning we went on Lake George."

He says Thursday's practice round is really important because it helps him get his mind set for the tournament.

"You gotta concentrate. You can't worry about what other people are doing," said Boedecker.

But that may be difficult for him because of one of the team's he'll be competing against.

"Last year my brother and wife started fishing together as a team, and they may have beat me one tournament last year, maybe two," said Boedecker.

She's hoping this year at nationals she'll see similar results.

"My goal is to be right up there with them or right ahead of them," said Jan Boedecker.

They both say that winning the national title would be great, but the bragging rights will be a pretty good prize as well.

The championship runs Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon.
