NPOL scientist Awards: KOCHI: Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) senior scientist O R Nandagopan has been awarded the Mechanical Engineering Design Award for the year 2010, instituted by the Institution of Engineers (India) Ltd.
The award is given to an engineer for the outstanding contribution in the area of mechanical engineering design.
Nandagopan's significant contribution was in the development of mechanical systems and technologies related to winch and handling systems for shipborne and airborne sonar in collaboration with the academic and industry partners.
He has applied innovative ideas in the operation and maintenance of sonar systems by providing unique and customised engineering solutions.
Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), Chennai, additional director Jayashree Varadhan from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) presented the Suman Sharma Award for the best woman engineer of the year 2010.
Fisheries Minister S Sarma gave away the awards during the Indian Engineering Congress in Kochi on Friday.
