16 Sri Lankan Fishermen assists Repatriation of by Navy
Sri Lanka Navy assisted in the repatriation of sixteen (16) Sri Lankan fishermen, who were released from the Indian custody, yesterday (13th January 2011).
The fishermen and three (03) fishing boats were handed over to SLN officials by the Indian Coast Guard Ship “Jijabai” at the Indo-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the seas north of Kankasanthurei. They were brought to the KKS Harbour yesterday morning by Sri Lanka Naval Ship "Ranadheera” attached to the Northern Naval Command and have been provided with required assistance by Naval authorities to sail to their respective fisheries harbors.
The boats released are “Jayasayura”, “Wega II” and “Sinhale VI” and had left for fishing from the Trincomalee Fisheries Harbour.
The early release of these fishermen and the fishing boats by Indian authorities comes as a direct result of speedy efforts made by the Sri Lankan Government, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the Sri Lanka Navy. Read More ...
