British tourist’s killer shark terror Egyptian Resort

British tourist’s killer shark terror Egyptian Resort

A HORRIFIED Brit tourist told yesterday how a killer shark terrorising an Egyptian resort tore a swimmer to death just a few feet from her.
Ellen Barnes flung off a snorkel and face-mask and hurled herself towards the beach as the water around her turned red with blood.
But she found it difficult to make any headway as the thrashing shark — tearing off the arm and biting the leg of a screaming German woman — created waves all around her.
Ellen, speaking just hours after her horror, said yesterday: "I have never felt pure terror like that.
"The water was churning like I was in a washing-machine. I was being thrown around in the blood.

"The shark was thrashing and tearing at this poor woman and I could barely keep my head above the water it was so choppy.
"And the swimmer was screaming 'Help me! Help me!' in English. It was spine-chilling. I just threw myself on to the beach."

Ellen's partner Gary Light, 32, had spotted the shark torpedoing towards her from a cliff and had run yelling at her to get out of the water. But lifeguards failed to react.
Ellen went on: "The lifeguards were useless and petrified.

"They waited five minutes until the attack was over and just watched until the corpse drifted into shore."
The tragedy came just a few days after four tourists were mauled in attacks in the same area.
On Tuesday, two women — a Russian and Ukrainian — were savaged.
The shark badly injured one victim's legs and back. The other, a 70-year-old, had her right hand and left leg torn off.
The next day two Russians had arms bitten off.

But then two sharks were caught — and even though experts said they were not the fish responsible, officials claimed they were.
A fax was sent to all hotels in the area to say it was safe to go back in the water.
The latest attack even took place in a "protected" area said to be safe.

British holiday companies today cancelled all watersports and boat trips in the Egyptian resort.
Thomson and First Choice also advised its holidaymakers to stay out of the water in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Ellen, 31, of Horsham, West Sussex, has two children — Grace, five, and four-month old son Eden.
She said: "Just shortly before the attack we were in the water together."
