Fisheree a hit on Fox Lake

Fisheree a hit on Fox Lake

FOX LAKE — Braving the freezing cold and wind, 100 ice fishermen set up camp on Fox Lake Saturday hoping to hook a prize winning fish.

The contest was from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in the end, nine adults were given cash awards, and six people in the youth division also won prizes.

“It was cold, but everybody had a good day fishing,” said Fox Lake American Legion commander Louis Jordan.

This was the third year the American Legion hosted the event.

“The first year had a small turnout,” said Jordan. “That’s because we decided to have the fiseree about two weeks before the event.

“This year we had many volunteers, and even had five officials on the ice, ready to measure the fish while it was still alive. It worked better for catch and release too.”

The prizes were awarded at sundown Saturday at the American Legion Hall where there was also a raffle and silent auctions.

“We enjoyed it, we’ll have it again next year,” said Jordan.
