Ice-trapped ships rescued By Russia's icebreaker

Russia’s icebreaker Krasin began a rescue operation on Monday to release the Bereg Nadezhdy refrigerator vessel and the Admiral Makarov icebreaker.

The Bereg Nadezhy ship, the Sodruzhestvo fishery ship, the Professor Kizevetter vessel and the Mys Yelizavety trawler asked for help after they became trapped in two-meter-thick ice in the Sea of Okhotsk on December 31st.

Admiral Makarov was caught in heavy ice on Saturday after rescuing Mys Yelizavety and Professor Kizevetter.

Krasin will first pave the way for Bereg Nadezhny, then for Sodruzhestvo.

The rescue operation is hampered by strong winds, low temperatures and heavy ice floe in the area. Read More ...
