Jan. 24 Treasure Coast Fishing Report

Jan. 24 Treasure Coast Fishing Report

Indian River County

Action around Sebastian includes some pompano, black drum, bluefish and a few keeper redfish. With cooler temperatures, anglers can again expect action to move to deeper holes and under area docks lining the river. Look for trout and redfish in these areas. The temperature change should also spark increased action offshore. After several days of slow action, cooler temperatures and rougher conditions should bring more sailfish and dolphin to the area.

St. Lucie County

With slower than usual action trolling, many have decided to bottom fish for a variety of snapper as well as some dolphin and a cobia or two. According to reports from the Lady Stuart II, anglers have been catching plenty of vermillion, lane, yellowtail, mutton and mangrove snapper, along with the usual triggerfish and black sea bass. Other offshore anglers are hoping colder temperatures and rougher conditions will spark sailfish and dolphin action.

Martin County

The Lady Stuart I reports that anglers are still catching plenty of black sea bass, trigger fish, almaco jacks and banded rudderfish, while other boats are catching plenty of snapper, fishing the reefs off south of the St. Lucie Inlet, off the Loran Tower. There have also been reports of big Spanish mackerel hitting jigs and spoons, also fished around the Loran Tower. Inside, anglers are seeing some snapper and black drum around area bridges.

Lake Okeechobee

Action on the lake has been very good. Water temperatures had been on the rise and the bass action was really hot, but colder temperatures could slow things down again. Anglers are working Gambler soft plastic baits along the outside grass edges with a lot of success. Watermelon red and other dark colors usually produce best. Cold temperatures should also spark speck action, especially in the Kissimmee River and around Indian Prairie.
