Minnesota men headed for ice fishing championships in Ukraine
MONTICELLO, Minn. -- There are those who may spend all day ice fishing on Pelican Lake in Monticello just waiting for a nibble, if only they met the likes of Duff Peddycoart and Keith Kuebelbeck."We're fishing here, we don't know how deep it is so we're going to find the bottom," explained Kuebelbeck as he drops his line into the water.Testing their skill, the pair use hand augers and fish without electronics, just a rod and a reel along with a little bait and a hole.The two are in training. "When we go over there, what we're going to be fishing for is actually minnows," said Peddycoart as he explained that fish in the Ukraine are much smaller, unlike the pan fish he pulls up in Minnesota.
The method to catching the fish in the Ukraine is a bit different as well and the two will be working on their technique in the coming weeks. They will use a warm up tournament on Pelican Lake to test their luck and skill.
Team Minnesota leaves at the end of the month for the World Ice Fishing Championship, which begins February 2nd. Read More ...
