DAPHNE — Bay Community Church will welcome nearly limbless professional angler Clay Dyer as its featured guest speaker at its Men’s Second Annual Wild Game Dinner set for Feb. 11.
Dyer was born in Hamilton, Ala., on May 23, 1978 without any lower limbs, no arm on the left side and a partial arm on the right. However, these limitations did not dampen his determination and positive spirit, and Dyer started fishing at age 5. He began tournament-fishing at age 15.

Highly competitive, Dyer has not allowed his physical disabilities to be an obstacle to earning the respect of his fellow anglers on the pro circuit. A professional angler since 1995, Dyer has fished in hundreds of bass tournaments and placed first in more than 20 state bass tournaments.

His success comes without special treatment — Dyer refuses to use special equipment, casting with one hand as others do with two. He casts by tucking the rod under his jaw and whipping it around with a quick left-to-right twist. He reels fish in while holding the end of the rod under his chin. He ties knots with his tongue and unhooks fish with his teeth.
Dyer also is the national spokesperson for C.A.S.T for kids and is a fishing guide for disabled and terminally ill children through the United Special Sportsmen Alliance. He also enjoys sharing his life experiences through motivational and leadership presentations to various companies, charities and churches. His motto is “If I can, you can.”

His television appearances include ESPN, Fox, CNN Headline News, the Outdoor Life Network, The Outdoor Channel, Fox Sports South, Charter Sports South, and CBS. Published articles about Dyer have appeared in USA Today, Newsweek, BassMaster, FLW Outdoors Magazine, Sports Spectrum Magazine, and the Baptist Standard.
