County to reel in 'Fishing Day'

The Community Health Council of Lebanon County will host the ninth annual Youth Only Fishing Day, from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9, at Tulpehocken Creek, east of Myerstown. Refreshments will be served, and prizes will be awarded.

Lebanon County children ages 3 (or old enough to hold a fishing rod) to 17 are invited to participate, according to a news release. Those 16 and older must have a fishing license.

Youth Only Fishing Day began seven years ago in an effort to get youths involved in outdoor activity and to introduce them to fishing without the adult pressures that occur on the first day of trout season, the release states. A section of the stream will be stocked with trout for the event. There will be no public fishing permitted on this section of the stream from Friday to the end of the event.

The event is made possible through donations from local businesses and organizations. Anyone interested in making a donation should make checks payable to the Community Health Council of Lebanon County and forward them to Jim Holtry at Children and Youth Services, Municipal Building, 400 S. Eighth St., Lebanon, PA 17042. For more information, call 228-4430.
