TREASURE COAST FISHING REPORT

Capt. Gary Rhinehart of Professional Outfitters in Vero beach reported great inshore fishing opportunities as spring time fishing takes it hold. Redfish and trout catches are up, with live shrimp being one of the best baits to toss their way. Popping corks will help "call in" the fish in 3 to 5 feet of water. Gold spoons work well for reds around the mangroves and mullet.

Capt. Richard Hunt of Little Adam charters in Fort Pierce reported about as good of a half-day of fishing action Sunday as can be enjoyed here. Fishing with the John Childs party of Vero Beach, Hunt steered them to a catch of five nice dolphin ranging from 15 to 20 pounds and a wahoo weighing an estimated 45 pounds. Most of the best action was in about 100 feet of water.

Capt. Bob Bushholz of Catch 22 charters out of Four Fish Marina in Jensen Beach reported great sheepshead fishing. Several of his recent trips bagged 30 fish with Friday's Blouin party tallying 37 sheepshead 2 to 4 pounds. Other action has included snook on the south side of the inlet and pompano on Sailfish Flats. Try Joe's Jigging Spoons or Troll Rite jig with shrimp for best results.

Crank baits, spinner baits, swim baits and rattle type lures are all producing fast action on bass as they get ready to spawn later in the week. Fish are really in the mood this week and are feeding to fatten up and release roe when the time is right. Sight fishing beds will be a better proposition as the week wears on.
