Duncan Fletcher New Coach Cricets Mumbai

The 62-year-old Zimbabwean takes over from former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who coached the Indian side to its recent World Cup victory before returning home to be with his family.

Fletcher's appointment was announced by the Indian cricket board, which gave him a two-year contract.

Fletcher had coached England for about eight years until 2007 during which the team won the Ashes series for the first time in 18 years, The Hindu reported.

South African Eric Simmons will continue as India's bowling coach.

Britain's Daily Mail reported that Fletcher's first assignment as the Indian coach could be to lead the team against England in a four-match test series starting at Lord's in July.
