The tournament benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of southern South Carolina. Prizes will be awarded for the largest fish of four species (striped bass, catfish, largemouth bass and panfish; i.e., bream, shellcracker, crappie, redbreast). There also will be a prize for the biggest three species aggregate weight. Youth anglers will receive participation awards as well as awards for their catches. A captain's meeting and barbecue dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at tournament headquarters -- the Lower Savannah River Alliance at the old South Carolina Welcome Center on Highway 301. Registration fee is $50 per boat for two anglers. Additional anglers can be added for $30 each. Registration includes an event T-shirt and barbecue ticket. Non-anglers can come to the Friday night barbecue (tickets $8) and Saturday weigh-in. Fishing will start at 6 a.m. and all participants must weigh in their catches by 5 p.m., with weigh-ins starting at 3. The awards ceremony will be held at 6. It's a nonprofit organization consisting of 22 bass clubs and 286 members. Purpose is to strive for competitive bass fishing, but also relaxation and fun through good sportsmanship and good fellowship. The angler of the year, chosen after competition in the Tommy Shaw Memorial (held in March), the local Top 6 Tournament for members only (held April 8-9), the Clark Hill Memorial Open Team Tournament (May 14) and the Mr. Clark Hill Tournament (Oct. 7-8), will earn a guaranteed $1,500.
