Join us to fish Vanuatu in luxury 2011

MV Island Passage is a purpose-built displacement catamaran operating within New Zealand waters from November through to April, before relocating north to Vanuatu from May through to September.

During that latter period, one of the trips undertaken is the ‘Mr and Mrs Fishing News Charter’ designed specifically, but not exclusively, with couples in mind. This year’s dates are June 5-12.

The previous two trips have seen participants travel north of Espiritu Santo to the Banks group of islands. For 2011 the adventure heads south to Pentecost to take in not only some great fishing, but the land-diving the island is famous for.

Hosts NZ Fishing News Editor Grant Dixon and wife Faith will be on hand to ensure the trip runs smoothly from the time you get on the plane at Auckland International until you return to New Zealand soil.

At 42-metres (140-feet) overall, and weighing in at almost 500 tonnes, Island Passage is equipped to travel to inaccessible areas while delivering the highest level of passenger comfort. All cabins are air-conditioned, have their own en-suites, a selection of new release and classic movies, together with a generous music choice, and are fully serviced daily.
Dining on the Island Passage is designed to be a true offshore experience. A fine wine cellar, plus a wide range of spirits, beer and juices are available onboard.

During each journey, the eight-person crew is on hand to share their knowledge of the area and local fishing conditions.
Anglers will enjoy a wide range of sport fishing options that include trolling, casting and jigging for the likes of billfish, yellowfin and dogtooth tuna, giant trevally and a range of other tropical species, such as coral trout and jobfish.

Fishing will be conducted from five vessels, with a maximum of four anglers per boat, plus a guide, to maximise the fishing experience. The boats consist of: Island Passage itself for trolling between destinations and jigging/casting over reefs or when anchored up at night; two 7.2-metre Marco centre-console/centre-cab tenders; and a 7.5-metre Commando ‘landing craft’ – with the latter being a perfect casting platform for popper fishing in particular. To make the most of the billfish opportunities, Island Passage also offers the 14-metre charter vessel Fiesta as part of the mix, with each crew of four getting at least one day aboard her.
