Plattsburgh, NY (Vocus/PRWEB) April 05, 2011
Today the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau announced the 2011 summer calendar for pro bass tournaments on Lake Champlain. This year will mark the tenth year that Plattsburgh, NY (population 20,000) will welcome pro anglers to fish the bass-rich waters of Lake Champlain.
Donald M. Kasprzak, Mayor of the City of Plattsburgh said, "Lake Champlain is one of the North Country's most prized assets and a world renowned fish hatchery providing outstanding fishing and recreational activities. For Plattsburgh to be a professional bass fishing destination for a decade is a testament to not only Lake Champlain but also to the wonderful people involved with the tournaments all these years."
Separating New York and Vermont in the Northeastern corner of the U.S., Lake Champlain saw its first pro bass event in September 2001. Since then, Lake Champlain has earned the reputation of one of the best small mouth fisheries in North America, welcoming more than 50 tournaments and 25,000 pro anglers to the host city of Plattsburgh. This year will be no exception.
June 11- ABA Weekend Series
June 18 - Wal-Mart BFL Tournament
June 23-25 - FLW Everstart Series
June 25 - FLW National Guard College Series

September 14-17 - Wal-Mart FLW Tour
This summer’s fishing tournaments will draw more than 3,000 of the top bass anglers from around the world as they compete for $1.8 million in cash and prizes.
"Lake Champlain is always a favorite stop among our anglers, and we couldn't be more thrilled to be visiting with the Walmart BFL, EverStart Series and National Guard College Fishing events in June and the Walmart FLW Tour stop in September," said Kathy Fennel, FLW Outdoors president of operations. "The incredible hospitality extended to FLW Outdoors and our anglers is one of the reasons we continue to come back year after year."
"Lake Champlain is considered one of the premier fisheries in the United States," Fennel added. "Our anglers love the tremendous smallmouth and largemouth fishing opportunities that it offers, and fans love the exciting weigh-ins produced by such a prolific fishery." Lake Champlain is home to the FLW Tour’s top-three all-time opening round catches.
To keep up with its growing reputation as a fishing destination, Plattsburgh has continued to enhance its infrastructure; most recently adding two new boat launches and adjacent parking. But the City’s focus remains on conservation.
The City of Plattsburgh has worked continually with tournament officials, the National Sea Grant Office, U.S. Fish & Wildlife, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Lake Champlain Basin Program, to maintain and improve the bountiful resources of Lake Champlain
The sixth largest lake in the U.S., Lake Champlain stretches 120 miles north to south with almost 600 miles of shoreline. Its 435 square miles of surface area carve through the Adirondack Mountains of New York and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
With a maximum depth of 400 feet, Lake Champlain features more than 80 species of warm and cold-water fish including walleye, lake trout, brown trout, land-locked Atlantic salmon, perch, carp, steelhead and bowfin. But it’s the bass that have Lake Champlain consistently recognized as a top destination. It was recently named “One of America’s 25 Hottest Fishing Spots” by Field & Stream. Similarly, FLW Outdoors Magazine has declared Lake Champlain “One of the hottest bass-fishing destinations.” When referring to Lake Champlain’s prowess as a site for competitions, B.A.S.S. may have said it best, “Champlain…bass paradise.”
