Increase Export of Indonesian Fishery Products in North Germany 2010-2011

Indonesian Counsuller General in Hamburg, Teuku Darmawan in his discussion with Chairman of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that the opportunity to sell Indonesian fishery products, especially fish breeding products to North Germany, has developed. Various strict rules and regulations of the European Union and Germany on the quality standard of fishery products can basically be accomodated by Indonesian fish breeding businessmen/exporters.

In fact, Indonesia makes use of product quality of European Union as its benchmark for the rules and regulations in Indonesian fishery industries. It revealed in a meeting and dialog among delegations from Department of Marine Affairs and Fishery of the Republic of Indonesia, a number of businessmen/exporters of Indonesian fishery products and Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Bremerhaven on 1 October 2009 and Hamburg on 2 October 2009. The meeting in Hamburg was also attended by local businessmen/importers, government officials in fishery as well as local fishery association.


Recognizing the potential of better qualified Indonesian fishery products and the growing number of demand on food with fish raw materials in Germany, Indonesian Counsuller General in Hamburg have organized both meetings since last year. Indonesian delegation was led by Dr. Made L. Nurjana, Director General of Fish breeding. The delegation consisted of a number of officials of Department of Marine Affairs and Fishery, Chairman of Indonesian Sea Weed Commision, and seven businessmen in fish breeding, fish manufacturing, ornamental fish as well as fishery industry equipments.

Besides discussing regulation and quality sertification, Directorate General of Fish Breeding also delivered a presentation on the development of fish breeding potential and on the anually increasing number of fish catching in Indonesian water territorial. In addition, Indonesian Counsuller General in Hamburg, Teuku Darmawan in his speech also stressed Eurostat data which shows the small number of Indonesian fishery products export to Germany of about 26 million Euro or around 0.88% of the total Germany fishery products import. The meeting was expected to encourage the cooperation of both parties to increase Indonesian fishery product export to Germany.

Bremerhaven and Hamburg Chambers of Commerce and Industry positively responded the visit and commited to improve their cooperation with Indonesia. Indonesian delegation also observed Deutsche See in Bremerhaven, one of the biggest fish manufacturing companies in Germany. The delegation was given a presentation and directly perceived the implementation of quality control in each process. In addition, some business opportunities for several types of fish were also discovered. The businessmen enthusiastically observed the high qualified fish manufacturing and had a discussion with their business partners.

In 2010 trend of market fishery product Indonesia to North Germany growing up, and forcating for 2011 will  comes best ordering.
