Two Calls Out Just How Busy is Narooma so Far These Holiday??

THE Narooma division of Marine Rescue NSW took delivery of its replacement rescue boat the Sapphire Rescue on Wednesday, December 8.

The first call for action came on Saturday, December 11 when the vessel headed out from the wharf on on a call for a boat northeast of Montague with engine failure.
The fishing vessel with two on board was towed back without incident.
The Sapphire Rescue, previously based at Merimbula, will be Marine Rescue Narooma’s rescue boat until a new purpose-built vessel can be built and commissioned.
The local crew are concerned about the ability of the jet-powered boat's ability to handle the Narooma bar and will be excercising caution as appropriate.
The next call out came on Tuesday, December 28 when a fishing vessel called for help while at Montague Island after experiencing electrical problems.
The skipper was just able to muster enough power to call for help on the radio.
The boat was towed back into Narooma without incident.
Don’t forget to log on with Marine Rescue before and after each trip.

The Narooma News asked a few local business people and service providers if they thought it had been busy around town so far these holidays…It’s been busy and steady. A lot of people are looking for adventurous things to do like scuba diving, bike riding and fishing. Virtually all the accommodation is booked but we haven’t turned anyone away being able to find them somewhere to stay.”

Diann Matters, Visitors Information Centre tourist officer
“It’s normal – busy, busy. And now that the sun is out that means my customers will be happy. It’s no different from any other year.”
Jayne McKinley and Lyn Field, Easts Narooma Shores Holiday Park
“It seemed a bit slow earlier on up until today when it got busier. We always want more people to come fishing and enjoy the fishing we’ve got here.”

Norm Ingersole, skipper Narooma Charters’ Sea Eagle
“Things were a bit quiet until today when we had 40 plus boats log on before heading out. We had a report from Shearwater that is was mayhem and wall to wall boats at the island and that they had to weave their way to the island’s jetty.”
