‘Sengoku38′ to Be Slapped With Suspension

Sengoku38′ to Be Slapped With Suspension: The Japan Coast Guard is expected to announce Wednesday afternoon plans to suspend the maritime officer who leaked onto YouTube classified footage of the September boat crash between a Chinese fishing trawler and two Japanese patrol cutters, according to local media reports Wednesday morning.

The 43-year-old Coast Guard officer is expected to be suspended for a couple of months in the incident that has ensnared more than 50 officers and the transportation minister. The Japan Coast Guard declined to confirm the punishment but said an announcement regarding the incident is expected later Wednesday. Transport Minister Sumio Mabuchi may get his pay docked over the fumble, according to local media citing government sources.

The pay cut would add to the list of political bruises that have hit the minister since the boat crash. Frustrated over Mr. Mabuchi and chief government spokesman Yoshito Sengoku’s unimpressive response to the September collision, the upper house brought a no-confidence motion against both men in late November.

The Kobe-based Coast Guard officer made waves when he posted about 44 minutes of footage showing the infamous boat collision onto YouTube on Nov. 4. Opposition lawmakers then lambasted the Democratic Party of Japan for what they said was the ruling government’s latest mishandling of the diplomatic squabble. The outcry launched a comprehensive search to smoke out the culprit, which eventually led to the nameless officer’s confession six days later.

Since then, the Coast Guard has investigated dozens of officials — including agency supervisors – and it is expected to reprimand more than 50 suspected of helping to set the scene that allowed the video to see the light of day.‘Sengoku38′ to Be Slapped With Suspension
