Bastrop Daily Enterprise.....fishing report

Bastrop Daily Enterprise.....fishing report

CANEY LAKE — With cold rain and windy conditions, not much has been going on at Caney this week. A return to sunny calm conditions should improve fishing. Some bass, none larger than the slot, were taken on tail spinners in deep water. Crappie have been fair around deep brush on ? ounce jigs. Yellow bass are biting jigging spoons fished on the bottom in 40 foot water.

CHENIERE LAKE — Fishing jigs or shiners under corks have produced some fair catches of crappie around Puckett Lake. Bass have been fair on jigs with trailers.

LAKE CLAIBORNE — The crappie bite has slowed somewhat with weather conditions likely the culprit. Mixed catches of some crappie and barfish are coming on shiners or jigs fished in deep water. The Electric Chicken color seems to be working best. Catfish continue to bite on jugs with pieces of wieners used for bait. Bass fishing has been quite slow.
LAKE D’ARBONNE — The lake is at pool stage with water just now starting to go over the spillway. This should help fishing which has been not-so-good over the past week. Crappie and bass fishermen are having poor luck. Even the catfish, which always bite, are hard to come by.

OUACHITA RIVER — Crappie fishing has been fair up the bayou above Holland’s Bluff fishing black/blue tube jigs around sunken tops with some reports of fair catches being made in the river around submerged tops.

LAKE POVERTY POINT — Reports are about the same as last week with fair catches of crappie made late afternoons around the boat slips on Bobby Garland jigs, Electric Chicken pattern as well as black/pink jigs. Catfishing is good on cut shad fished off the deck at the marina. No report on bass.

LAKE ST. JOHN — A few catches of crappie are being reported on yo-yos baited with shiners. Catfishing is good on yo-yos and trotlines baited with shiners.

LAKE YUCATAN — The water is falling but not many fishermen have been out. Crappie have been biting around private docks on shiners or jigs. No report on other species.Read More ...
