Fishing investment soar 223% in 2010


Jakarta - The Indonesian integrated fisheries investment in 2010 surged 223.5%. The value of investments in 2010 reached USD 9.333 billion, while in 2009 only USD 2.885 billion.

Director of Business Services Fishing (PUPI) Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries A. Sutejo Bambang said that the amount realized investment whose value exceeds the initial target of Rp 5 billion.

"Investment and the number of ships have Soar. In 2010 our investment to Rp 9.333 billion, while 2009 is USD 2.885 billion," said Bambang.

Based on data from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries was recorded during 2010 there were 159 companies engaged in the fisheries sector. Foreign companies as much as 31 companies and the rest are national private companies.

Bambang also added that the number of Fish Processing Unit (UPI) in Indonesia has reached 504.
