Cyclone Laila hits Andhra Pradesh's fishing business

Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), May 22 (ANI): The fishing community in the port city of Visakhapatnam is among the worst hit by the 'Cyclone Laila'.

Voicing their anxiety over the loss of business they said they did not pay much attention to the cyclone advisory issued by the Meteorological Department.

"In each boat, three to four of us go onto the high seas. On certain days, we may earn Rs 1000 and at times Rs 500 per day. Some times, we will not get anything in this type of situation," said Guruvayya, a fisherman.

"We are facing so many difficulties due to this cyclone. We are not going into the sea due to these tides. We are going one day and sitting for four days at home," said Ellaji, a boat helper.

"As there is no clarity on this cyclone, we are staying here only, waiting for weather Gods to be kind to us," he added.

Despite the cyclone weakening its impact here, the fishermen are still a worried lot since it is reportedly moving towards Orissa and West Bengal. (ANI)
