Where they're biting .....Fishing Report
GAR, tommies, whiting and some snapper are biting - after a lacklustre start the season has started.
Catches during the mid-week weather break indicate that summer species are in full swing, and the Gulf St Vincent season appears to be assuming some normality after a poor start.
METRO WATERS
CREWS scored blue crab quotas off Semaphore and on the 8m line just south of AAMI Stadium.
Gar and tommies have settled on the 1-3km grounds from the Black Pole through to Seaford. Crews prepared to keep shifting are picking up two or three whiting a drop outside the Black Pole, at the Silt, Northwest and on the 15m line off Glenelg.
Snapper came from the Fairway area, Grange tyre reef and off the Broadway. The Aldinga south grounds have fish to 55cm and trollers scored 1kg salmon at Sellicks.
Squid came from the Seacliff area. Slimy mackerel are schooling on the local reefs from the 10m line seaward. Port Noarlunga jetty has gar, tommies and squid.
All the metro jetty shallows hold pods of whiting, along with a few blueys from the ends.
Snapper to 45cm were also caught off the Glenelg jetty end. The local beaches and the Onkaparinga River mouth area have yellowfin whiting.
SOUTH COAST
GRANITE Island causeway has gar and tommies on incomin
and the jetty produced a few snapper to 50cm recently.
Salmon trout came from the caravan park end of Horseshoe Bay, while Petrel Cove produced mullet. There was a run of 1kg salmon at Waitpinga during the week. Mixed size snapper were caught off Cape Jervis.
Rapid Bay jetty has tommies and squid. Gar are biting off Wirrina and the Banks continue to produce snook.
SOUTH-EAST
WHITING came from the Port Macdonnell breakwater grounds and the drops off Carpenters Rocks and in Gerloff Bay.
The jetty has squid and big tommies at night. The Orwells Rock-Green Point area remains best for snapper. The Glenelg River lower reaches and the Poles have bream and mulloway.
Crews found whiting, snapper and sweep in the bay at Beachport. The jetty has mullet, a few whiting and snapper to 40cm. The Five and Ten Mile beaches have mulloway, school and gummy sharks.
YORKE PENINSULA
GAR have finally arrived at Point Turton. The bite of the bay is producing plenty and catches of two dozen came from the jetty. Snook, mackerel, chows and tommies were caught at night.
Whiting are best in the Burners-Pines area while the Drift ground has smaller fish. The Banks produced snapper to 8.5kg.
Ardrossan jetty end has mulloway. The offshore grounds from here to Stansbury hold snapper. Port Vincent crews found gar outside the spit, snook near the oyster leases and squid out from the golf course.
The wharf has a few gar and the cemetery beach provided yellowfin whiting. Edithburgh crews have to work hard for whiting, there are nice-size gar about and huge tommies came from the Sultana Point-Wattle Bay area. Coobowie Bay has a few blueys and there was a catch of 14 from Edithburgh jetty.
Snapper came from the Illusion wreck, Plank Shoal, Middlebank, Jurassic Park and wide of the coast towards Balgowan.
The Steamer Channel is only producing reds at first light and sunset. There are squid, snook and heaps of gar at Tiparra Light. Wallaroo, Port Hughes and Moonta jetties have a mix of gar, tommies, mackerel, chow, squid and blueys. The shallows and local beaches host yellowfin whiting.
EYRE PENINSULA
ARNO Bay crews returned with 15-18 whiting. One angler scored a 55cm, 1.3kg specimen. Snapper remain hit or miss but big fish have been caught. The jetty has squid. The estuary here and the Port Neill beaches continue to produce yellowfin whiting.
Blueys came from Cowell jetty and Franklin Harbor. The SJB Group has whiting, gar, trevally and some snook. Louth Bay is similar. Port Lincoln's main wharf produced salmon, tommies and a few snook.
Best whiting reports came from the Group. Crews found trevally, squid, tommies, salmon trout, gar and a few whiting in the local bays.
Whiting and mixed species came from the Sandhills, Fence Line and Frenchmans grounds off Farm Beach.
Casters have to search for salmon schools at Almonta-Gunyah and Locks Well is firing at dawn.
The Anxious and Waterloo Bay shoreline sand patches hold whiting.Read More ...
