Ice fishing can be a lesson in patience. Since he can't see below the thick ice and snow covering Hopeville Pond in Griswold, Ron Johnson of Canterbury sits with his jigging rod and waits for "whatever will bite." Johnson and friend Adam Lisee, also of Canterbury, have spent hours already on this bright Saturday drilling holes and setting up tip-ups all over the frozen pond. Another friend, David Smith of Waterford, joined them on the ice later in the day. After relocating their fishing camp several times, the anglers settle in with venison chili and a beer and wait for the bright orange flags of their tip-ups to pop signaling a bite.
