Indonesians on SKorean Fishing Boat Sank in Antarctic Ocean


Seoul (News Today) - South Korea says four sailors are dead, 18 are missing and 20 have been rescued from a fishing boat that sank in the Antarctic Ocean. The Foreign Ministry and coast guard officials say the 614-ton ship with 42 sailors aboard sank around 4:30 a.m. Monday South Korean time (1930 GMT) about 1,400 miles (2,250 kilometers) south of New Zealand.

The Foreign Ministry says in a statement that 20 sailors were rescued by another fishing boat operating nearby. There were no immediate details about the missing sailors.

South Korea says it has asked New Zealand to help in the rescue effort. South Korea says the boat carried eight South Koreans, eight Chinese, 11 Indonesians, 11 Vietnamese, three Filipinos and one Russian.
