Pirates hijack two fishermen escafed death

TWO fishermen escaped death when their fishing boat was hijacked by pirates near Pilas island, off Bolong village in Zamboanga City on Sunday morning.

Fishermen Eduardo Lamotos, 48 and his young brother, Edmundo, 39, managed to escape unharmed but the pirates took the 6.5-horsepower engine of their fishing boat, said Zamboanga City police chief Edwin de Ocampo.
The duo was out on a fishing expedition Sunday when pirates aboard another motorboat appeared and ordered them to get off from their fishing vessel at gunpoint.

The Lamotos brothers said the pirates fled onboard a motorboat marked "Julharie" to the nearby Sacol island, 54 kilometers east of Zamboanga City.

De Ocampo said they are checking the registration number of the motorboat with the City Government of Zamboanga.

The City Government requires the registration of all motorboats which are operating in the city for identification and security purposes. (Bong Garcia)
