Pirates nabbed off Lakshadweep
In a latest anti-piracy operation by the Navy and the Coast Guard, about 25 pirates on board a hijacked fishing trawler-turned-mother ship were nabbed off Lakshadweep early on Sunday.
The pirates on board Prantalay11 waved a white flag when they were fired upon by Navy 's first squadron ship INS Tir, originally a training ship, which was joined by Coast Guard Ship Samar in apprehending the pirates.
The pirates were later taken to Mumbai for handing over to the police. The Hindu earlier reported the use of three shipts -- Prantalay 11, Prantalay 12 and Prantalay 14 -- by pirates to launch attack on merchant vessels. Of these, Prantalay 14 was sunk in a joint operation by the Navy and the Coast Guard last month-end.
