Wilcox big scores at Lake Okeechobee 2011
Aymon Wilcox does consistently well in Everglades bass tournaments, but he’s also made a name for himself in Lake Okeechobee events.
Wilcox, of Lauderdale Lakes, scored his biggest triumph to date this past Saturday when he won the co-angler division of the Walmart FLW Tour event on Lake Okeechobee out of Clewiston.
Fishing from the back of the boat while paired each day with a pro division angler, Wilcox won $20,000 with a three-day total of 15 bass weighing 55 pounds, 14 ounces. He caught a limit weighing 22-9 Thursday and a limit weighing 23-12 Friday, then added a limit weighing 9-9 Saturday to secure the victory. George Kapiton,
Anthony Hunt, of Tamarac, had a limit weighing 23-5 Saturday to jump into third place at 51-9 and win $5,000. Luke Campbell, of Fort Lauderdale, was 11th at 42-13 to win $1,500. Richard Held, of Lake Worth, also won $1,500 by finishing 13th at 40-10. Larry Mullikin, of Lauderhill, was 29th at 27-4 and won $1,200. William Wood, of West Palm Beach, was 37th at 26-4 ($1,100), Anthony Valachovic, of Coral Springs, was 60th at 23-8 ($700), Brent Cantville, of Plantation, was 63rd at 23-5 ($700), and Tony Bennett, of Fort Lauderdale, was 70th at 8-4 ($700).
On the pro side, Brandon McMillan, of Belle Glade, won $125,000 with a four-day total of 106-10. Scott Martin, of Clewiston, a pre-tournament favorite, made it to the third round and finished 20th at 55-9, winning $12,000. Another favorite, Mike Surman, of Boca Raton, was 21st with a two-day total of 43-15 to win $11,500. Don DeMott, also of Boca, finished 56th at 37-9 and won $4,000.
