LAKE ISABELLA: DFG planted trout this week. A few trout are showing at the auxiliary dam on floating baits and small spoons and spinners. Few other reports. Just four weeks away, the 2011 22nd Annual Berkley Isabella Lake Fishing Derby. More information available at isabellafishingderby.com.

KERN RIVER: All the stretches of the upper Kern River were stocked again this week and the action has been very good.

AQUEDUCT NEAR TAFT: The striper bite is really starting to take off here with a lot of quality 3- to 5-pound fish showing, and quite a few up to 12 pounds this past week. Most of the fish are showing on sand worms and blood worms, but the lure bite is also improving. The catfish bite fair on anchovies, shad.

HART PARK LAKE: Fair go good trout action after a DFG plant this week. Also a few bluegill just starting to be caught.

TRUXTUN LAKE: Fair trout action. The bass action is also starting to turn on as the water warms. Some fish moving into the shallows and on beds. A few bluegill also starting, and the carp are moving shallow, too. Catfish still slow.

RIVER WALK PARK: DFG trout plants this week and two weeks ago. The bite has been good on the usual array of baits, garlic nightcrawlers, and corn or garlic floating baits. Bass action is also improving. Also a few bluegill beginning to show.

MING LAKE: DFG trout plant last week and another slated for this week. A few bass 3-5 pounds starting to show. Also a few bluegill showing on nightcrawlers.

BRITE LAKE: DFG trout plant two weeks ago, and the bite is fair on Power Bait and nightcrawlers.

BUENA VISTA LAKES: Trout action slowing with no recent plants, but a few fish continue to show on Power Bait. The bass are also starting to move shallow, and are showing on Senko, minnows and baby Brush Hawgs. Also a fair number of crappie on minnows.

WOOLLOMES LAKE: DFG trout plant three weeks ago.

SUCCESS LAKE: The bass bite is improving on warm days between storm fronts with the fish moving shallow and quite a few fish reported.

KAWEAH LAKE: Crappie stacking up in the coves on newly flooded structure in 8-20 feet of water. The bass are also moving shallow to spawn and showing on plastics in jigs in 15 feet or less.

Other regional lakes

CACHUMA: Fishing continued to be off this past week thanks to rotten weather. The largemouth and smallmouth bites both remained fair and can be found shallow on good-weather days. Crappie also should be breaking wide open, but there has been no pressure on them this past week.

CASITAS: The bass have stacked up in the shallows, even with the rainy weather, and the bite has been very good for anglers fishing bed fish. A weekend bass tournament took a 21-9, five-fish catch to win, with second 19-plus pounds. Big fish was an 8-pounder. Catches of 10 to 15-fish, most in the 1-8 to 3-pound range are common for both shore and boat anglers.

CASTAIC: The largemouth bass bite has still been just fair over the last week, but the fish are staging in the coves preparing to spawn and some males are moving up and fanning out beds. In the lower lake, the bass bite has been good in spite of the weather.

NACIMIENTO: Good bass action on both spots and largemouth with a lot of fish on beds in the shallows. Plastic worms with red flakes seem to be the hot baits. Most fish in less than 12 feet of water.

LOPEZ: The water got a little murky from the rain this week, but it hasnít slowed the bass action with a very good bite on the largemouths.

PIRU: Very few reports and very light pressure this past week.

PYRAMID: Light pressure this past week with few reports. There has been a fair to good striper bite for boat anglers trolling or metering fish and then drifting anchovies, sardines, or blood worms down to them. Most fish to 4-5 pounds.

SAN ANTONIO: Still light fishing pressure, but the bass bite is really starting to take off.

SANTA MARGARITA: Lake is at 104 percent of capacity now. The bass bite has been good with a lot of quality fish showing. Top fish this past week was a 9-4 caught by Jeremy Dyer, Paso Robles.

Trout plants

KERN: Hart Park Lake, Isabella Lake, Kern River from Powerhouse No. 3 to Riverside Park in Kernville, Ming Lake, River Walk Park Lake.

TULARE: Del Lago Park Lake, Kern River from Brush Creek to Fairview Dam, Kern River from Fairview Dam to Falling Waters Lodge.

Ocean report

LONG RANGE UPDATE: The San Diego-based long range fleet is seeing fantastic wahoo fishing on the 14 to 16-day trips that are down the Baja Coast. The Royal Polaris reported excellent action on ëhoos that averaged 40 t0 50 pounds with some up into the 70-pound range. The Red Rooster III finished a 15-day jaunt with 18 anglers, 236 wahoo and 184 yellowfin tuna. A lot of fish over 100 pounds.

ROCKFISH STILL TOP BET: The rockfish action has been excellent all along the Southern California and Baja coastline over the past week, but windy and rainy conditions much of the time have made for light loads and a lot of cancelled trips. The Channel Islands in the north and the San Martin Island region (1 1/2 and two-day trips out of San Diego) to the south, have been where the bites are limit-style most trips. In between from San Diego to Los Angeles, four to six fish per rod has been the norm with a nice mix of rockfish, bocaccio, and red snapper.
