Bradenton Offshore Fishing Report April 9, 2011

On “Show Me The Fish Charters” operating out of a new location the Bradenton Beach Marina my Anglers on Show Me The Fish Charters are suffering from sore muscles from a “big mack” attack. The good news is the king mackerel invasion is here. Fishing in about 40-70 feet, we are catching lots of king mackerel on a variety of live baits and artificials. There are schools running up to about 35 lbs along with hooking into a few real smokers that are cutting through steel leaders, straightening hooks, busting up tackle, and causing real chaos. We usually start out bottom fishing on a hot spot catching grouper and snapper and deploy a chum bag and draw the kings to the boat.

A couple of flat lines with select live baits are always ready behind the boat waiting for the pelagics to come to us. When the flat lines go off with the drags screaming while everyone is bottom fishing, we do the Chinese fire drill pulling in all the other lines so the angler on the kingfish can fight it unobstructed. If someone tangles him up while he is fighting a smoker I have to throw the flag on an interference call. It is just pure craziness. I suggest you try it you will like it,” reports Capt. Larry McGuire of Show Me The Fish Charters (941-720-6475). captlarrymcguire.blogspot.com.

We are also catching lots of big red grouper. Huge gag grouper are still inside nine miles. Cobia, amberjack, and a variety of large sharks are usually being caught out past 100 ft along with tasty snappers, porgies, triggerfish, black sea bass, and Spanish mackerel. The weather is perfect, the fishing is great, and life is good. Now is the time to come on out and get some of this wild and crazy action,” McGuire reports.

Capt. Larry McGuire is a Bradenton based professional fishing guide and a native Floridian who comes from a family of fisherman. He started fishing at an early age and grew up fishing in Tampa Bay, the Manatee River, and the surrounding flats. Later in life he developed a passion for offshore fishing. He now specializes in offshore fishing from Tampa Bay to the Florida Keys.
