CHICAGO — Thousands of fishing enthusiasts are expected to visit three forest preserve lakes in Cook County as trout season opens.
It's opening day at Axehead, Belleau (buh-LOO') and Sag Quarry-East, the three Forest Preserve District lakes stocked with rainbow trout.
Anglers on Saturday will get the first chance at catching some of the approximately 3,000 pounds of trout stocked at the lakes.
A valid Illinois sport fishing license with an inland trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older. There's a five-trout-per-day limit with no size restrictions.
No license is required for Illinois residents with Illinois ID cards showing a Class 2 or Class 2A disability or with veterans disability cards. No license required for active duty troops home on leave.
