The title to this blog post was actually written by Mr. Louis Cahill over on his website GinkandGasoline.com. He's a friend, professional photographer, and all around fishy dude. You may remember Louis from some of his photography tips last year about this time.

A couple of weeks ago Louis and I were fishing here in Colorado. Both being admitted streamer junkies we started talking about what we thought was the strangest object you could catch trout on. Louis admitted to me that he had always had the twisted idea of trying to catch a fish on a car key. Right...

Fast forward to last week and I get the image above texted to me from Louis somewhere from Wyoming with words to the extent of, "I did it." I couldn't believe it. Not only did he catch a really nice sized fish on a car key, but it was only one of two fish caught that day.

Chollas: The Joe Bain Memorial Fishing Pier is a great place for kids to fish. Open daily to youngsters 15 and under. San Diego Fly Fishers sponsors a Lend-A-Rod program on Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and it includes free bait and tackle and fishing tips. Good perimeter hiking trail, shady spots for picnicking.

Corona Lake: Very good trout action here in the wake of recent trout stocking. More plants are set for the holiday season and just in time for kids being out of school. Sam Choi, San Diego, 9-pound, 8-ounce trout, part of a limit of trout totaling 19 pounds, 8 ounces. He fished from a float tube and had the fish before 10:30 a.m. Chyanne Brooklyn, Perris, 8-pound rainbow trout, part of a four-fish, 14-pound stringer of trout. Edgar Wilson, Johnny Brant, Allen Polk, all of Compton, put together a 13-fish stringer totaling 28 pounds. They used chartreuse floating bait. Corona will close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed Christmas Day. It reopens Dec. 26 and will be open seven days a week, including New Year’s Eve Day and New Year’s Day. Fishing is from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes, or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of the passes is $22. Seniors pay $20. All passes have a five-fish limit. It’s $9 for kids 4 to 13, with a three-fish limit. The 24-hour passes are available on the Friday and Saturday nights nearest the full moon. The next 24-hour pass days are Jan. 6-7. The passes cost $60 and anglers may bring a spouse and up to three kids to help fill the 24-hour pass limit of 15 fish. There’s free camping on the 24-hour pass. Good fishing prior to the winter storm. Big trout showing. Thomas Swanson, National City, 12-pound, 9-ounce rainbow, part of a three-trout stringer caught on rainbow Power Bait at Lone Pine. Justin Dodson, Oceanside, two fish, with one a 9-pound, 2-ouncer, gold Cleo and a gold Kastmaster. Anthony Noy, San Diego, fishing with his father, double-limit of trout. John Ambrose, Descanso, 10-pound trout, part of a limit of rainbows he caught at Lone Pine on green Power Bait. Rex Shumate, El Cajon, 7-pound, 8-ounce trout, part of a limit he caught at Pumphouse Cove on night crawlers. Debbie Savy, El Cajon, 9-pound, 4-ounce trout, Power Bait, wooden dock at Chambers Park. All private boats must be sprayed and decontaminated to prevent the spread of quagga mussels in the lake. Cost is $10. Applies to canoes, kayaks, float tubes and waders. Campers now have the use of showers on the North Shore. Condos and sleeper cabins available at the lake. Excellent hiking opportunities, with trails leading into Rancho Cuyamaca State Park. The state of Florida is known for its exceptional bass fishing. A lot of boats on the market are designed specifically for bass fishing and generates revenues as well for the boat owners.

For people who specialize in fishing, it is a dream come true to capture such wonderful species. Good freshwater fishing can be found not only in lakes but also in ponds, creeks and canals.

Largemouth Bass, Redfish, Black Crappie and Trout are some of the fascinating sea creatures targeted by expert fishermen in the many inland lakes of Florida. Fishing guides are very courteous and friendly. St. John River is the longest river in Florida. Its clear copper-colored waters and floating hyacinth islands are bold and enchanting.

The area contains marshy wetlands as well as citrus groves which are irrigated by zigzag canals linking the reservoirs, swamps, lakes, palm trees, flat-water marshes and cypress stands. Large numbers of the best and the biggest trophy black bass are caught in regular basis. Wetland-dependent species thrive here including blue herons, limpkins, pelicans, turkey, alligators, bald eagles, rabbits, wild hogs, tortoise, deer, wood storks, populous and ospreys.

The river itself is great for fishing and catching enormous sizes of fish. In order to fish bass from rivers, it is best to seek out breaks in the current, perhaps from a fallen tree, a stump, or rocks. The fish that bass feed upon will normally school below a dam, thereby making these spots ideal for bass fishing. There are numerous techniques available to pursue the sport of bass fishing.

Both amateur and seasoned anglers use Spinner bait.

Ditches and dikes were constructed in the St. John’s River headwaters in order to serve agricultural pursuits. To expose rich soils to grow citrus, row crops, and to raise beef cattle, the marshes were drained. However, channeling the St. John’s headwaters for groves, farms and ranches eliminated hundreds of thousands of acres of marshes, upset the fragile wetlands ecology that was the foraging, nesting and nursery habitat for wildlife, and made the area susceptible to damage from floods from hurricanes.

In the year 1988, the Management District and the US Army Corps of Engineers began a project to restore the drained marshes, construct reservoirs, levees, canals, spillways and water control structures to provide flood protection to the area. The project also created some fantastic trophy bass fisheries. Since then more than 150,000 acres of marshes are being restored and enhanced in the Upper St. John’s River headwaters reclamation project.

It is not rare to catch Redfish. The brawl of this game fish is both unmistakable and unforgettable. It is really an amazing experience catching enormous sizes of these sea creatures!

Central Florida also offers visiting anglers the opportunity to catch Trophy Largemouth Bass and Black Crappie from one of its many Inland Lakes.

There are plenty of wonderful and popular lakes in Central Florida such as Lake Toho, Kissimmee Chain, Lake George, Harris Chain, Lake Conway, Butler Chain and the St. Johns River. Osama bin Laden, the world's most wanted terrorist, was killed in Pakistan as the result of a U.S. military operation, President Obama announced to the nation Sunday night.

The historic revelation comes about four months before the 10th anniversary of the devastating Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, which were executed by the Al Qaeda network helmed by Bin Laden and prompted the start of a war on terror that has dominated U.S. foreign policy.

Bin Laden, 54, was a member of a wealthy Saudi family and has been on the FBI's Most Wanted Fugitives List since 1999.

Bin Laden broke with Saudi leaders over their beliefs regarding Israel. He was eventually denounced by his family and gave up citizenship.

Al Qaeda has taken responsibility for the bombings of U.S. embassies in 1998 in Tanzania and Kenya. More than 200 people were killed in the attacks.

Al Qaeda has also claimed responsibility for other attacks on other symbols of U.S. power around the globe. It has spawned local organizations in hot spots from Iraq to Afghanistan.

The announcement by Obama from the East Room of the White House came eight years to the day after President Bush announced the end of major combat operations in Iraq, the so-called “Mission Accomplished” speech from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

Members of Congress were briefed on the news by Vice President Joe Biden throughout the weekend, according to a Senate aide.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, related the news to mourners at a memorial service for political consultant Kam Kuwata. Feinstein said Obama was announcing it on TV as she spoke. However, she announced the news well before Obama began to speak.

Many Americans were shocked yesterday when President Obama finally released his long form birth certificate from the State of Hawaii. The real surprise however is that for the past three years our democratic institutions did not address the matter.

The press refused to tackle this issue with the same investigative drive with which they did investigated Watergate, President Clinton’s alleged indiscretions and the Bush administration’s missteps in Iraq – the courts declined to hear a single case on the issue, and the Congress failed to hold any hearings on the matter.   Perhaps the saddest part of this story is its ending.

President Obama did not release the birth certificate because the media pressured him or because the courts actually listened to one of the many cases that were filed. He released it because an obsessed billionaire threatened his electability in 2012, which forces us to ask the question – what good are our democratic institutions if they don’t stand up for the people?
