3 are rescued when Boats collide off Hull;
A Scituate-based fishing boat sank in the harbor Tuesday night after it collided with a 600-foot-long bulk carrier 20 miles off the coast of Hull, according to the Coast Guard and the Scituate harbormaster.
Three members of the 51-foot-long fishing vessel Michael Brandon were taken off the damaged boat after efforts by the Coast Guard and the crew to keep it safely afloat failed. The larger vessel was not damaged, officials said.
The Coast Guard towed the Michael Brandon back to Scituate Harbor late Tuesday night, where fishermen and the harbormaster struggled to save it.
“We had pumps, a crane, but unfortunately, the extent of the damage was too much so she ended up sitting on the bottom,’’ said Harbormaster Mark Patterson.
No one was injured. The Coast Guard said the cause of the collision was under investigation.Read More ...
