KALLANGUR: A Pine Rivers angler with just two years fishing under his belt is the first Australian admitted to an exclusive game fishing club.
Kallangur resident Matt Price, 40, has become the first Australian to be accepted into the International Game Fish Association’s Billfish Royal Slam Club for catching all nine species of marlin

.

Moreton Bay Boat Club game fishing chairman David Trask said Mr Price was especially lucky to land the sought-after broadbill swordfish.
The species is usually caught at night in deep water, but Mr Price landed it in 100m of water in the middle of the afternoon, Mr Trask said.
``Some game fishermen have chased that fish all of their lives and never caught it,’’ he said.
Mr Price, a hotel porter, said his achievement was still sinking in.
``I’m ecstatic. Not only to achieve it but to be the first Australian to have ever done it and also to have done it in such a short space of time, it’s blown me away,’’ Mr Price said.
He said he was guided by an experienced game fisherman at the boat club named Jan Patterson.
``I certainly owe him a lot of gratitude,’’ Mr Price said.
He is now eyeing similar Royal Slams for tuna and shark.
