Six ladies from the North East group ‘Ladies Fishing’ took part in the Tyne Fishing Festival The day started in a festival mood with ladies enjoying a hot breakfast, whilst rods were being assembled by coaches Cliff & Paul and introductions given by guides Ed & Chris from West End Anglers.
The ladies were already in high spirits as three of them had caught salmon the previous week on the River Tyne. During the day, beginner Vanessa received one to one tuition from Head Coach Cliff Johnston, whilst the rest of the ladies spent time increasing their river craft knowledge from AAPGAI Master Paul Little
Lunch time and a buffet prepared by Fupi was well received by everyone including guests. Lively discussions centred round the number of fish seen, and what flies to use were the main topic of conversation.
The ladies finally stopped fishing as the light was fading. Sadly no salmon were in a taking mood. Over hot drinks and cake, news came from Bywell Beat that 2 ladies on their beat had caught a 13lb & 23lb salmon. The ladies had a great day and said they would be back next year!
Anne Woodcock Event Organiser said ‘it was important to bid for affordable fishing where we could accommodate 5 ladies, with good access and a suitable area to demonstrate, teach and fish.’
